Midland County Habitat for Humanity Collaborates
with Community Partners in Housing Study
Midland County Habitat for Humanity, in collaboration with Midland Area Homes, United Way of Midland County and City of Midland Planning Department worked with czb consultants out of Alexandria, VA to conduct a Housing Needs and Market Assessment of Midland County. The goal of the study was to determine current and future demand for various housing types, the quality and adaptability of existing housing supply, and the needs of various demographic groups and community stakeholders.
czb used a mixed-method approach to their analysis. This approach has proven highly successful with clients across the country and will aid Midland County in understanding the conditions and trends that will most influence the future health of the housing market and the community the project approach had three phases:
Phase 1: Data Collection and Quantitative Analysis
czb and the collaborative partners worked to build upon our firm’s existing knowledge of the Midland County housing market through a rapid but comprehensive exploration of market conditions and trends.
Phase 2: Stakeholder Engagement on Market Perceptions, Preliminary Observations, and
Policy Options
During this phase, czb performed stakeholder interviews with sponsoring agencies, developers, realtors, community members, business leaders, lawmakers, and other crucial stakeholders.
Phase 3: Final Report and Presentation
Last, czb compiled all data into a set of overarching observations and guiding recommendations for the project sponsors – and an implementation framework and set of guiding principles for the strategies that are most likely to realize community goals.
