Alden B. Dow Habitat Homes featured in MLive
Recent coverage from MLive shared details about our work to bring new Habitat homes to Midland using original designs created by renowned architect Alden B. Dow.
The story underscores the opportunity to bring forward previously unused designs from the 1930s and 1940s and translate them into homes that meet today’s needs.
Growing momentum
As highlighted in the article, Midland County Habitat for Humanity will build 14 new homes using these historic designs, blending Midland’s architectural legacy with practical, accessible homeownership opportunities.
This work reflects a growing awareness beyond our community of the importance of thoughtful, locally rooted solutions to housing challenges. While the need for safe, affordable housing is shared across the country and around the world, the way we respond is deeply local.
Building on partnership and place
This effort is built on our collaboration with the Alden B. Dow Home and Studio, along with partners including the City of Midland and Midland Public Schools. Together, we are working to create not only new housing, but a neighborhood that reflects the character and strength of this community.
The Alden B. Dow Habitat Homes will be part of the Humanity Street Neighborhood Development, a multi-year effort rooted in long-term recovery from the 2020 flooding and focused on expanding access to safe, stable housing.
By combining historic design with modern building standards, these homes will be both meaningful and practical, honoring Midland’s past while supporting families today and into the future.
This development is made possible by the people and partners who continue to show up, invest, and build alongside one another, highlighting what is possible when communities come together.
