Reflecting on 37 Years, and Looking Ahead

Linden Rogers, The Dow Chemical Company

Together, we’ve built more than homes

For 37 years, Midland County Habitat for Humanity has been shaped by a simple but powerful idea: that everyone deserves a safe, decent place to call home.

What began in 1988 as a group of committed community members has grown into something much larger. Since then, people have continued to show up, year after year, building alongside us, and together, we have built 95 homes, completed more than 450 critical repairs, and engaged nearly 20,000 volunteers contributing close to 160,000 hours of service. These numbers represent families with stability, homeowners with renewed security, and a community strengthened through shared effort.

At the center of our work is partnership

Homeowners partner with us, investing time through sweat equity, preparing through education, and ultimately purchasing homes with mortgages they can afford. Volunteers, donors, and community partners bring together the resources, skills, and commitment that make this possible. It is this model, grounded in shared responsibility, that creates lasting impact.

That impact extends well beyond any single home. When families are stable, lives are changed and neighborhoods grow stronger. And when neighborhoods thrive, our entire community benefits.

Looking ahead

The need for affordable housing remains. Every day there are individuals and families in our community working hard, doing everything right, and still facing barriers to accessing affordable housing, but we are encouraged by what’s next.

This year, we will begin construction on additional homes, including our 100th, through partnerships with Midland Public Schools and the Greater Michigan Construction Academy.

As we continue building toward the future, we do so with a deep sense of gratitude. This is not just Habitat’s story. It belongs to all of us, to everyone who has given their time, resources, and trust to this work.

Thank you for being part of it, and for helping build what comes next.
