Midland County Habitat for Humanity Collaborates to Host House Party Fundraiser

On September 8th, 2022 Midland County Habitat for Humanity (MCHFH) collaborated with Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) and the Home Builders Association of Midland County (HBA) for the House Party: A Party with a Purpose fundraiser to raise awareness and funding for affordable housing in Midland County.
Funds raised during the event are for the construction of a new home on Crescent Street in Sanford – a village in the county still rebuilding from the devastating impact of the flood and dam failure that occurred in May 2020. “The need for safe and affordable housing in Midland County is more important than ever as we continue to emerge from a global pandemic and recover from flood devastation,” said Jennifer Chappel, President/ Chief Executive Officer of Midland County Habitat for Humanity.
MCHFH and GMCA will partner to build the home before it is moved to its final location. MCHFH places two steel beams at the GMCA facility and provides the materials for the home to be built. Then, GMCA students construct the home and gain valuable hands-on construction experience. “It’s a meaningful experience for our students to help others,” said Stephanie Davis, GMCA President. “They can see the impact they are having firsthand and learn valuable construction skills at the same time.”
The House Party fundraiser was held on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the Greater Michigan Construction Academy. This event was sponsored by Carolyn Crawford, DuPont, Mercantile Bank, Memorial Presbyterian and Three Rivers Corporation.
“Home is something so many of us take for granted,” said Randy Miller, HBA Board President. “We were excited to see the people of Midland come out to support the growth of affordable housing in our county.”
