Gratefulness In Midland
Midland County Habitat for Humanity (MCHFH) Home Repair and Preservation Program helps homeowners with low incomes restore and maintain their homes. We offer home repair services to homeowners so they can continue to live in safe, decent homes for years to come. Habitat for Humanity will partner with homeowners to alleviate critical health and safety issues and complete needed home improvement projects.
MCHFH uses a variety of grants and programs to perform the home repairs and recently partnered with DuPont to complete several roof replacements. Through DuPont’s generosity we are able to improve local homeowner’s homes to allow them to continue to live in their homes safely. Many area homeowners cannot physically or financially afford vital maintenance of their homes. Through the home repair program MCHFH and it’s partners can assist with the home repairs and in turn help the community by maintaining safe, stable housing.
Recently MCHFH partnered with a family that need to replace their roof, and utilized the grant from DuPont for the funds. The homeowner was overjoyed with the repair. The damage to the roof caused a lot of stress, uncertainty and feelings of being overwhelmed. Having the roof replaced removed a lot of stress from the family. The family wrote a thank you letter about how grateful they are:
“I am writing this letter this morning with gratefulness in my heart. It would be an understatement to say that this year has been tough on all of us in some way or another. From the breaking news of the pandemic, to a complete shut down, to flooding and destruction of homes and neighborhoods and businesses, to not knowing if they will run out of supplies, or how we will take care of our families to a second round of closures. I have felt immense hopelessness, grief and loss, and despair this past year and I am sure those of you reading this can relate on many levels.
I am a single mom, raising my children on my own. This is the first home that I have ever owned, and the first home my children have been able to call “home”. I have worked really hard to get here for them. Because of the generous support of grants, people that take the time to find the grants and funding, and those that donate time or supplies or money, to help out the neighborhoods and families here in Midland County, my kids now have a safe roof and furnace to help keep them warm and secure for years to come. This not only has helped me by providing a hand up from where I was, but my children as well. We can have one less stress and worry because of this opportunity. I cannot express enough the amount of hope this has given me during a time when hope is hard to find. Hope that the future will be better, the struggle a little less, and one less worry off my plate. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!”
