Program to Help With Home Repairs

Midland Daily News

Midland County Habitat for Humanity will begin a new initiative in 2014 to help individuals and families in need of exterior home repairs.

The new program — “Mission: Midland” — will allow MCHFH to partner with church congregations in Midland County to support families in need of home revitalizations. MCHFH will work with interested churches on identifying up to 25 eligible partner families. Participating churches will then raise $1,000 to renovate each identified house and receive a matching $1,000 contribution from MCHFH, made possible by a $25,000 grant from The Dow Chemical Company in celebration of MCHFH’s 25th anniversary.

Renovation of selected homes will occur between Sept. 7 and Oct. 5 — concluding on the International Day of Prayer and Action for Human Habitat. Volunteers will focus on “A Brush with Kindness” and “Weatherization” projects, including exterior painting, gutter and porch repair and other exterior renovations.

“Mission: Midland will be a great way for our organization to collaborate with local churches and help even more people in Midland County,” MCHFH Executive Director Jennifer Chappel said. “Many families in our community own their home but don’t have the ability to pay for home repairs. Through Mission: Midland, we will be able to address this critical need.”

Church congregations interested in participating in Mission: Midland are invited to sign up by April 11. Contact Brenna Morlock, MCHFH community outreach coordinator, via email office@199.167.253.130 or phone 989-496-0900, extension 24 for details.
